Feeling a Lack of motivation? Declutter your space!

I can’t be the only one who gets a major boost of energy when it comes to cleaning. Put on some good tunes, open the blinds and let the sunshine in, and I am ready to get things done for the day! Rearranging furniture and décor are one of my favorite things to do. I’ve come to realize that reorganizing the home significantly boosts my mood and not only creates a clean and more organized environment but lowers my stress levels and enhances my mental clarity. Decluttering is important for me to stay on top of my game. Needless to say, when the house is a mess, I’m a mess. I experience such a lack of motivation when my house is out of whack and to avoid that, I have to pick myself back up and get to cleaning to get out all of the negative energy lingering around.

I recently have been working on reorganizing and deep cleaning our entire space, which has certainly been challenging. It’s been a while since I put energy and effort back into my space and I quickly rekindled that lost feeling and understanding of why I NEED to do it. It’s only the getting started that is the hard part, but once I get in my groove, I enjoy the work itself. In a way it brings me peace. Having a clean, beautiful space is important to promoting a positive mindset. I want to be able to enjoy my coffee in the morning while sitting on the couch with a good booking in my hand. I want to feel cozy and have a space that brings me peace, rather than looking for a space elsewhere when I can have what I need in the comfort of my own home.

I know that cleaning is not always enjoyable and can even be dreadful for some. Long hours, as well as other distractions can also play a big role in our ability to get things done, but in the end, we all have necessary chores that require our attention. Though, when the task at hand requires more time and energy, it can be discouraging to get started, but I can assure you that there is no greater feeling than being able to take pride in your space. When your space is no longer your peace, then that is a strong indication that you should probably reevaluate and improve the current dynamic in your home. If you’re currently feeling a lack of motivation and experiencing high levels of stress within your space and need some ways to kick start your motivation and productivity, then you’ve come to the right place!

Here are 5 ways to help motivate yourself into decluttering your space.

1. Start Small

Growing up It was never routine for me to make my bed daily, but I am slowly but surely building a good habit for myself, and you should too! Making your bed every morning is a minor task and can be affective in getting yourself to start moving early on in the day. It also encourages healthy cleaning habits. creates a more relaxing bedroom environment and fosters a sense of self discipline. It’s the little things that make all the difference after all!

2. Create a routine

As someone who gets distracted quite easily, building a routine has always been challenging, but that doesn’t stop me from trying my best to create a routine that fits me, and my households needs. A routine can be as simple as adding a variety of small, but different tasks to different days of the week. If you think about it, cleaning will become far more manageable once it is capable of being maintained, rather than having to start over monthly or whenever you find the time and patience to get around to it. When I keep on things around the house, I am far less stressed than I am when I allow clutter to build up. At that point, I am much more likely to become overstimulated by the mess and that defeats the entire purpose of trying to minimize stress levels. Create a routine that works for you within your schedule.

3. Treat Yourself

Feeling a sense of pride and accomplishment are motivation themselves, but why stop there. Treat yourself to a coffee in the morning because why not? Plus, when the caffeine finally kicks in you have something to apply all of that energy to! Investing in your space is also a fun way to boost your motivation. Decorative accents contribute to producing an aesthetically pleasing space and adding some new decor can certainly be inspiring to bring it all together.

4. Let the light in

Open those curtains, blinds, and windows! Let the sunshine in and allow some fresh air to flow throughout your home. Natural light can not only produce a space that is physically vibrant and welcoming but can improve mental health and productivity. Some benefits to natural light are boosting serotonin levels, saving energy and lowering utility bills, improving sleep patterns by regulating the body’s circadian rhythm, and potentially improving indoor air quality by reducing the growth of mold and mildew. I think you get the picture. There are far too many positives to not let some sunshine into your space!

5. Dedicate a short period of time

Whether it be 15 minutes, 30 minutes, or an hour of your day, take time to focus on the things that need to get done. Sometimes trying to incorporate tasks or chores into an already chaotic, busy day can result in feeling like nothing actually got done. When there is a period of time specifically dedicated to those tasks, you can refrain from getting sidetracked and apply your undivided attention to where it’s actually needed.

Your space is your sanctuary. Don’t allow clutter to suck the life out of you because believe me, I have fought that battle one too many times. Take time to visualize the kind of space that YOU want to be in. A space where you will feel inspired, content, and can unwind at the end of a long workday. It’s amazing how decluttering your space can impact your life in long lasting positive ways. Reclaim your space. You got this!
